Keyless entry parts question
I would like to upgrade a 97 Firebird w/ power everything to having the factory keyless entry. I have come across another 97 Firebird that has the factory keyless entry and is wrecked. Which parts do I need from the wrecked bird for the keyless entry system? Thanks in advance for your help.
Re: Keyless entry parts question
In most cases the BCM already has keyless entry. My 94 never came with keyless entry, but I performed the procedure for programing a new key fob and it worked. Now I have keyless entry.
I would just get a Keyfob and follow the procedures for programing in a new one. I beleive it's in the owners manual, if not I'm sure someone can help you out there.

Re: Keyless entry parts question
There is a split in the way these things work between 1995 and earlier and 1996 and later. 1995 and earlier used a keyless entry receiver and had no BCM. The BCM was only introduced in 1996 and has the keyless function built into it. No separate receiver as before.
I guess it would be worth a shot to see if the programming worked without first swapping in a different BCM. I do know there are different BCMs based on how the car was optioned from the factory, though.

Switched out the BCM with the other one. Keyless entry worked and all. Went to start the car and .....nothing happens. The security light is lit on the guage cluster. Stays lit after I take the key out. Any ideas?
