Key fob won't work. Think battery is dead. What to do?
Key fob won't work. Think battery is dead. What to do?
Just wondering if anyone knows how to replace a battery in one of the keyless entry remotes?
Just bought my 95 Z coupla weeks ago and both remotes r kinda weak (have to be real close to the car for it to work: pretty much right beside the car), and now one has stopped working all together.
I know there has got to be a way around this without replacing the whole thing, but i can't figure out how to open it up. Any help is appreciated.

Have an owner's manual?
Battery Replacement
Under normal use, the batteries in your key chain
transmitter should last about two years.
You can tell the batteries are weak if the transmitter
won’t work at the normal range in any location. If you
have to get close to your vehicle before the transmitter
works, it’s probably time to change the batteries.
Use two batteries, type DL20 16, or a similar type.
To replace batteries in the Remote Lock Control:
1. Carefully pry off the cover by inserting a dime (or similar object) in a slot between the covers and twist.
2. Lift off the front cover, bottom half first.
3. Remove and replace the batteries. Put new batteries
in printed side down.
4. Replace the front cover. Make sure the cover is on
tightly so water won’t get in.
5. Check the transmitter operation.

I have had mine "lose its mind" before too. Wouldn't work at all. You have to point it at the OBD interface and hold the lock and unlock until the car beeps and the lights flash. Good as new again.
