i just got a cutout installed, and then my friend got one installed on his TA, we both have flows, but his is louder, especially at idle, it as more air coming out of the cutout then mind does, at idle , you can barely hear mine from a few feet away, but his sounds like he has a cam in it from like 20 ft away, why is there a difference? why does he have more air coming out of the cutout? his cat isnt guttted.. all that he has is a ram air kit done to his TA, any ideas? anyhelp is appreciated, thanks

 

Possibly your converter is in rougher shape, making for more resistance in the line.

Maybe he has his cat/cats gutted.

 

Does your friend have headers?

Do you both have your cutouts in the same place? Mounted pointed at the same angle?

 

ya we both have our cutouts at the same place, we have them right before the axle and there both facing the same way, and no he doesnt have headers..but i have dual cats and he has single cats ...if that would make a difference ,

The only thing i can think of is two cats are quieter than one...

 

It's the cats. With two you actually have more surface area that the exhaust is hitting. Therefore causeing sound deadening. If if you do cat delete, it'll sound that wey because of the exhaust piping (it'll do the same thing). Convert to a single cat exhaust and it'll sound the same or roughly there...Every car is different, as are every motor...just a fact of life.

you said he has ram air. do you have any type of air intake system on your car? that makes a diff too in the sound

i notice that you have a M6 does he?? the M6's idle higher than A4's so that may be a contributing factor also....

 

nah he has an a4, but since mine idles higher, then shouldnt it be louder?

 

yea it should maybe he has a exhaust leak somewhere?? im not sure i also noticed that when you install a new exhaust it gets louder after about a week of runing or at least my magnaflow did...

 

well i got my cutout done before him, he got it done the day after me, and he turned it on and it was a much louderthen mine, i was pissed lol
