Re: Just finished striping inside of car

Well, as long as you are gutting anything and everything that could weigh the car down, why not get rid of the rear hatch, hood, bumpers and doors while you are at it? You could sell those too.

Are you building a track-only race car? Heck, even most f-body race cars I see still have their interiors mostly intact. There are guys going pretty damn fast with full interiors. Stripping the interior out of a car is such a "ricer" thing to do these days... Unless of course your car is back-halfed with a 4-link and slicks running in the 8's.

Re: Just finished striping inside of car

Many track events/classes require a full interior.

Very true; most people I see nowadays at car shows, in parking lots, just hanging out in general, with the Civics and Integras and all the other rice mobiles, all have the carpets out of it, the plastic trim, whatever. Seems like a new trend.

True, but for some reason a F-Body really looks ugly gutted. More then say an import. If you think your F-body creeks and rattles now, just wait untill you drive it gutted.

So, your car is not a race car, and you completely gutted the interior.

wow. Enjoy! You are definitly "one of a kind" there.

I live in Florida. I don't care how fast mine will ever get. A/C and stereo will work.

Re: Just finished striping inside of car

I'm surprised at all the slams, i say to each his own. Have you weighed everything to see how much you dropped? I can't imagine the interior weighing that much. I think the carpet with padding is like 45-50lbs. All the plastic, i wouldn't think would be more than 10-15lbs on the high side. Honestly, i'd be surprised if it was more than 100lbs total. Am i too far off with this guess?

Personally, i'd look for other things to remove before i gutted the interior, but mine's still a daily driver too. If shear weight loss is what you're after, go for the a/c system next and think about one of those half-size dry cell batteries. The battery alone should be good for 30-35lbs.

As far as your question hidden in there, after gutting the car, who cares? Just cut the bitch out. However, before you go any farther, check with the rule book for whatever it is you want to race it in before you go hacking crap up.
