intake differences on ls1.
intake differences on ls1.
im in running battle with my brother on the intake differences from 00' ls1 to o1' ls1 motors, im saying that the 00' has the ls1 intake and a more radical cam, and the o1' intake is an ls6 with a truck cam. there is money involved, so help me out!! thanks guys!!
Re: intake differences on ls1.
Yes, '98-'00 used the true "LS1" intake, whereas '01-'02 used the "LS6" intake (I believe that 'Vettes did the switch around the same time as well, but don't quote me on that
). As far as the camshaft, you're right again, they followed the intakes. '98-'00 used a cam that was around ~.500" lift, compared to a ~.479" lift cam in '01-'02 (and yes, it's supposedly the same cam used in the 6.0L truck engines
).
Just for some real PROOF (instead of hear-say evidence) check out SLP's write-up on their 1.85 rockers, and look at the chart they provide to show the valve lift. Notice that '98-'00 has higher lift than '01-'02?
(F-bodies, not Y-bodies).

Re: intake differences on ls1.
True enough, 00 had the most aggressive of the LS-1 cams, but 98-99 also had more aggressive cams than 01-02. 01-02 fbodies had the ls-6 intake manifold, less aggressive cams and no EGR, which is why 98-00 cars will make about the same power despite the ls-1 intake, it's all about the cam.
