Insurance On A Camaro?
Insurance On A Camaro?
I want to buy a 1993-1997 Camaro. I want to get a V6, because I figure that will keep the insurance costs down. I'm 17, and if I get the car, I will own it (it will be in my name). I know that my insurance will definitly go up. I'm wondering how much, though, and I won't be able to find out until next week, so I'm going a little crazy, wondering if I will be able to afford it. Have any of you guys bought a Camaro when you were my age, and if so, how did it affect your insurance?
I'm also wondering about gas mileage. I cuurently own a 1992 Ford Taurus, and while I'm not sure about the exact gas mileage, I know it's pretty good on fuel economy. How is a Camaro going to be on gas. As you can probably imagine, being 17, and after paying insurance on a Camaro, I won't have all that much money left. So, I'm worried about gas mileage again. I currently spend about 20 a week on gas, on an average week. How much do you think that will go up, assuming I drive to the same places and all that? Any hlelp would be really appreciated, cause I'm going crazy wondering if I can do this!

Ok, obviously, I should have read the forum instructions a little better and realized that this is the wrong place to put this topic. Sorry about that. Mods, you guys probably want to delete this, so I'm going to move it into the Lounge board, if anyone is interested in helping me with my questions.
Re: Insurance On A Camaro?
when i was 19 i bought an 87 camaro, V8....car was 12yrs old at that point.
i was paying around $125 a month i think for bare minimum insurance.
it wasn't long before that went up due to tickets....

Re: Insurance On A Camaro?
yea i depends on what kind of insurance. obviously if you get a loan, then you have to get full coverage which will prolly be murder. i got a 96 camaro for my 19 birthday and couldnt afford the insurance. then again, getting tickets sucks and is expensive for years. so get a quote from geico, theyre usually pretty good. after getting kicked off of 3 insurance agencies, i got them for 1/3 of what i was paying before
Re: Insurance On A Camaro?
I think I replied to a similar post of yours a few weeks back.
-Insurance? I bought my car when I was 18 and insured it in my dads name, at the time it was $1800 but would have been about $3000 I guess had I been on my own, I've only ever had full coverage on the car. now I guess it's about $1,000 or so, I'm 21 now and have always had a clean record.
-Also, for me, the insurance was the same had I bought a Monte Carlo SS or GTP grand Prix, the two other cars I was considering at the time.
- Gas? it's not that bad, V6 takes regular #87, if you drive hard it will be under 20! I drive 90% local with mine, maybe one long trip a month and get 23+ MPG, it's about $20-24 usually to fill the tank.

Re: Insurance On A Camaro?
The driver and location seem to have as much influence on the cost as the car model does, if not more so. I'm not sure how accurate any of our estimates will be. I'd get a web quote from Geico or Progressive or one of the other places that lets you do that online. Or just call your insurance company, I had a question like this and they answered my question in about 5 minutes time

Re: Insurance On A Camaro?
Geez, you guys are paying tons of money for insurance.
Mine's through USAA, so I get a bit of a break, but I'm 25, pay $92 a month for full coverage @ 250 deductible.
Where do you live? I mean, is insurance really that much more from state to state? I think when I bought my firs Camaro, a 96 RS, I was paying like $1100 a year...

I considered buying a beater a few years ago but realized I was going to spend the brunt of my extra money on car insurance alone between two cars!
