ignition switch replacement
ignition switch replacement
I replaced my ignition switch on my 93 6spd as preventive maintanace. Occasionaly the engine would buck and the gauges cut out. Now the car won't crank. I feel like a total dumb ***. I know it has to be something I did. I put the old switch back in, same thing, then swaped them back.
Anyway, there is a two pin plug, white connector, gray wire, black/white wire, up by the clutch switch. I don't remember unplugging this, and can't find where it belongs. I'm beginning to think that it is a dummy plug, maybe used on the automatics, and they used the same wiring harness. If any one knows if that is true, or what I overlooked, I would greatly appreciate the help.
The dash lights all come on normal, there is no security light flashing, so I don't think it's the chip in the key.
Thanks

Obviously it can't be the switch so it must be something else.
If the motor doesn't crank, it sounds like the "Security" issue that most of these cars have but then again, I'm only 19 years old and I do not know everything about Camaros so it could be a wide variety of things.
Try starting the car and if it doesn't do anything, take the key out of the ignition and look to see it the security light it on. I know you said it isn't but you never know because that dang light is pretty hard to see.
Maybe the unplugged wire that you were discribing is the wire that allows the security light to actually light up, ha.
90% of the time, when I go to start my car, it doesn't crank at all and I have to take the key out of the ignition and wait three minutes, or less, in order for the security light to go off. During the daytime, when the sun is out, it's almost impossible to see the security light unless you know where to look.
