Ignition Lock Cylinder Jail Time Possible!!
Ignition Lock Cylinder Jail Time Possible!!
Last night my wife couldn't get my son's 97 Z started at the gas station. It appears to be the ignition key cylinder. It was a bitch just to get the key out. When it's in, you can't turn the key at all, or you can turn the key and it just "spins", with no resistance at all, like the who cylinder is turning. Question is how the hell do you replace this thing? Do I pull the column? Is the problem the lock cylinder itself or something else. I have a friggin 93 Chevrolet Service Manual and so far I'm finding lots of references to the lock cylinder, but no procedure for pulling it?
Help please, as I will have to listen to my 17 year old bitch because his mother messed his car up. Then of course I'll have to beat him and he in turn will call the Department of Children and Families, and I'll get sent to jail. So you can see that this is a serious issue as you'd be saving a good family from being broken up.

I still may beat my son, just to make me feel better.

On a more serious note. It's my understanding that as long as I keep my current key and get a new lock cylinder keyed to it, that I should be O.K. and not have to change the security module??

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder Jail Time Possible!!
I dont think it is possible to get an ignition cylinder re-keyed.
When you buy the new one it will come with a dummy key in it. (no resistor pellet)
They will measure the resistance of your current key pellet and get a blank key of the same resistance. Now they will use the dummy key to cut the blank into a working key for your car.
Clear as mud?
