If you have a noise coming from the rear DS and can't find it...
I've had a rattling/taping noise coming from the rear of the car for a while when hitting any kind of bump or just driving down the road and finally figured out what it was today...the noise sounded like it was within the interior when the top was up but today I put the top down and had my wife drive around with me hanging out the back listening.
It was coming from just behind the driver side tire...after removing the dust sheilding just behind the tire I see the carbon canister, I move it and there's the noise.
After removing the canister, I see that the bracket is pop riveted on and there was a crack under the bracket, and it was this crack making the noise when the canister would vibrate, the metal would rub back and forth where it was cracked making a terrible noise.
So to correct I drilled out the rivets and removed the bracket, break out the welder and welded the crack up real good and then screwed the bracket back on and then welded it at the corners...in order to prevent future rusting and the problem happening again, I painted it up real thick, and then smeared a thick coat of silicom sealant all around the top of the bracket where it meets the body in order to prevent water from getting behind it and rusting it out again.
