Question If I dropped my belt off at the track, how long will the car run?

I have thought about doing this before but was afraid of killing my battery or not making it back down the return road. But I got thinking today....one of my friends races stock cars and we dont run an alternator on there at all. He just charges the battery each night before the race but it gets plenty of starts and probably about 50-60 half miles racing laps per race night. So if I were to drop the belt in the pits at the track this sat...do you think I would be ok for racing the rest of the night? Thanks

i just wanted to point out that some street cars see a LOSS at the track from running with no alt... so you might want to compare with and without. esp since its a modern EFI car..

I have read in the past that people that have tried it dropped a good tenth or two.

Its worth a solid .10 over my bolt on underdrive pulley.

You should be good for about 5 starts before it wont turn over anymore.

YOu have to realize though, your fuel system, ECM, and possibly (in my case at least) your h20 pump is driven from your battery. If those dont get the voltage you need, you will lose power.

I suggest taking it off for a run, and then put it back on for a run etc. Should keep things charged well enough. If you find a little driveway or something to pull the front wheels onto, you dont even need to jack the car up in the front.

What kind of battery do you have? I would recomend an Optima if you are going to be doing this. That way you can be sure you are getting enough power to everything.

This might be a stupid question but I just thought of this. If your battery is relocated to the back, would that make any difference at all or no ?

Id give it 3 or 4 passes tops. Unless you go and get an optima or something. Personally, I like to run my car at the track with the same exact setup as I do on the street. Not that it mattersa to you....
