I replaced the VSS... Still no Speedometer...

Replaced the VSS...and the PCM seems to know how fast the car's going. However I'm still getting no Speedometer, Cruise Control, Odometer, Tripometer... Whats up with this? Where's the wires for the speedo under the dash and from the PCM? What color? Might I need a new gauge cluster?

Every gauge and light works fine... (gas, temp, tach, ect..) except the speedo, odometer, and tripometer... I'm also not getting cruise control but thats not exactly a gauge...

i dont know why the tach doesnt work...vss has nothing to do with that.

if vss is broken though, of course the trip wont work and the speedo wont work (duh). i'm not calling you stupid or anything like that but are you SURE (100%) that the VSS plug is plug into that sensor really nice and tight?? i know its a biatch to plug that sucker in.

BCM is the body control module. it works your windows, door locks, chimes, interior lighting (i think), alarm system. Call me crazy but the speakers where hooked up in there as well. I'm still in the process of tracing wores and figuring out whats what.

I know it does more but I'm not sure what else cause I havent gotten that far yet into ripping it apart. I dont know for a fact but I dont think the speedo runs through the bcm. That means that some where down the line the vss signal would go to the bcm and then to the gauge cluster. It doesn't, the vss goes from the vss to the pcm then to the cluster. But I could be wrong!!!

There still possibly could be a snake bit or the wire is crimped somewhere...done any work to the car lately?? What did it do when it stopped working? When you ut the key in the "ON" position, do all your needles move or "bounce"??

Well Ironically it stopped working RIGHT after I installed LED's to my shifter console... But I have been under there three times and couldn't find any other wires of any sort besides lighting and the shifter.

When I turn the ignition to on, the Needles go to their accurate reading, well atleast gas and temp does as there is no voltage or oil pressure till you start the car... but thats it.

Where are the wires for the VSS in the PCM to Speedometer Connection? Any other places I should check? What about grounds?...

Re: I replaced the VSS... Still no Speedometer...

The ground is right by the oil dip stick...no way it came off. If it did then it would be impossible to start you car. When you look at a schematic it'll tell you where it goes but its very vague. I do know that in the schematic it goes from the pcm to the vss, then from the vss to a signal in the pcm...where it goes from there you got me...I am assuming right to the gauge cluster into the speedo.

Isnt the speedo gauge suppose to go up to zero (like an 1/8" up) when the key is in the "on" postion???

Does the gauge sweep when you start the car, I'm not sure 97's do this. If everything else works you probably need to pull the cluster out, and send it in for repair. Dealerships dont do these in house they send them out to a local place that GM certifies to do them. COntact a local dealer a find out who they use, and call them up and see what they charge.

Nada, I've never had a Camaro that did that...

Now it's back to bouncing in and out . For the most part it reads accurate, then it will jitter around if I hit a bump... I don't even know where to check anymore. I replaced the Gauge Cluster and it still didn't fix the problem...

I realize these are for V8 cars, but your V6 might be similar?

cavity D1 is the VSS feed on the gauges.

cavity A32 is the VSS on the PCM
