Hypertech 160 STAT
Hi I just got my 160 stat installed by a friend. Now I have a question. I thought the reason everyone uses these thermostat's is because they operate at a lower temperature. I let the car idle and warm up, basically to see what happens and when it when past 210 mark I was surprised. So i shut the engine off and opened up the two bledder screws my friend showed me and told me to close them when they start spitting coolant and I did that. Then started the engine again and same thing went up to 220 and the fans came on and temp cooled down to 210. Is it suppose to do that? or did it get a dud?? Thank you in advance for all the help.
Re: Hypertech 160 STAT
it will do that if the car is not moving... now go drive on the highway or something and watch how low the Temperature sits. (like 170-180ish) Only reason it is heating up to that temp is because the car is not moving, therefore no air to cool it down.
Dont worry mine did the same thing.
Things to do to fix the problem...
1. Install a manual Fan switch
2. Get a Madz28.com tune and he will lower the fan temps to kick on a lower temps therefore your car will never heat up to like 200+
First i installed the fan switch and it did the trick..but then i saved my money up for a Madz28 tune and i no longer needed the fan switch cause the car did all the work itself. with the 160stat and Madz28 tune, no matter how long im sitting in traffic, my car never heats up above 180, even with just the fan switch the car never heated up above 180 as long as i watched the temperature....
Those are your options

And, i really felt a difference in driveability
Re: Hypertech 160 STAT
The 160* stat isn't going to make much difference in temps if your fans come on at the same time, sitting still especially. Take it on the highway and see if your cruising temps are lower than before. Or you could take the stat out and throw it in a pot of hot water and see if it opens at 160.
Sounds like there's air in the system if the temps are gettin over 210. Bleed the screws some more and see what happens.
