How to remove turn signal lever?

I have a 96 camaro. I need to replace the turn signal lever. I broke the old lever. Now a 1/4" piece is all that remains. I already disconnected the cruise control. I already have the new part and it has a c-clip at the end. How do i remove the c-clip? Do I need a special tool?

Thanks

Before you pull the old one off, attach a piece of thin wire to the connector end of the old one first. That way after you pull the old one off and the wire comes up through the steering column, you can attach the wire to the conector end of the new one to pull the harness down through the column with the same wire.

I dont have a problem with the cruise control wires. I'm just unsure about how to remove the lever itself. I have the new lever and the end that goes into the column is keyed like a mixer blade, so it can stick in the hole. I just cant remove the c-clip attached to the lever. Do you guys think I am going about this the wrong way? Is it necessary to remove the steering wheel to replace this part?

Thanks

no, your on the right track. you don;t need to remove the clip. you just pll on it and it comes out. it;s a litle tricky but pretty streight forward. The hard part will be that it;s broken off.

Thanks for the advice HBHRacing. I grabbed some vice grips and yanked the broken piece out. The new lever went in easily. No more jumping through the window to get into my car anymore.
