How to remove power mirror motors?

Since my mirror adjustment motor isn't working, how do you get to them to remove / test or replace them? Is there a way to remove the mirror?

The mirror just prys off.
Then you can unscrew 2 or 3 screws and the motors out.
easy stuff.

Thanks Hood. I tried prying one off on a different car before and broke the mirror. I couldn't find anything on how these came off. Thanks again.

Re: How to remove power mirror motors?

I found it easiest to push the mirror all the way to one side.
By then you can actually see the motor and how the mirror is connected to it.
Then you carefully pry it off. Usually it's the pegs that gets broken not the motor, from my experience anyway.

Let me know if you need more help. I might be able to get some pix for you.

Re: How to remove power mirror motors?

I got one of them off, thought I'd pop one out of my 99 TA and pop in the 95 just to make sure that would fix it, but the 99 has a different wire connector on it, and I would have had to remove the door panel to get to it, it wasn't behind the mirror like the 95 was....you'd think GM could have left them easy to get to and not reengineered them....
Any way, went up to the dealer and they don't even stock the dam things, no dealer had them in a 25 mile radius!! They did say there are 2 kinds, the later type fits either side, the 95 is RT or LT specific.
And they are about $80 each!!
So I just put the broken one back in, and know I see how I can adjust it manually without breaking it now that I've had it apart, so I'll just put it in the desired position and forget about it.
Thanks for the help.

Re: How to remove power mirror motors?

which part is broken?
just the pins or the motor?
I might have some spare parts laying around for a lot less than $80 :P

Re: How to remove power mirror motors?

The motor does not power the mirror up/down, already checked the switch and swapped it with the one in my 99 and it did the same thing, does nothing when up/down is pushed. Funny thing is it does this on both sides, not sure if it started on both sides at the same time, its my wife's car and she just thought the drivers side was broke. I found the pins just pull out and push in, thats how I just manually adjusted it. The pins stayed in when I pulled the mirror off the broken 95, but came out on the 99, that's how I discovered they just pull out and push in.

Re: How to remove power mirror motors?

In that case, there's nothing wrong with your mirrors.
The switch is the culprit, change your switch.

That was the first thing I did, I swapped switches between the 99 TA and 95 TA, and still had same problem, and the "faulty" switch worked fine in the 99, and the 99 switch in the 95 still did not go up/down.

Did you bench test the motor when you had it out? Sounds to me like a nonpower thing.
