im looking at a 99 camaro ss slp the guy said it was really rare that only 69 were made that year i dont think that is true but i just want to make sure

Basically looks like ~4,800 SS cars were produced overall, but there could be some rare combination of options that narrow it down. Although I wouldn't pay any additional $$ for rarity if that's what you're thinking

You just took the words out of my mouth. Dude it bs, its not that rare...when SLP built my motor they were at 400+ back in 2000. Now its been 10 years since than so the number is way up. Buy the car but not for the rarity of it. Camaro Intimidator, 35th Ann, GMMG's, these cars are rare and you will have to pay a premium for it but not for a SLP, offer less!!!

 

Does SLP number the LS1 cars like they did the LT1 SS's and Firehawks? I remember my brother's '94 Firehawk had a little plaque on the shifter plate with the number of his which was 315 out of 500 made that year. The SS's had the same kinda plaque if I remember right. From what I know the LS1 SS's and Firehawks were much more plentiful than the LT1 cars. From what I know there was never an offical "SLP SS" in the LS1 years. The only thing I can think the guy may be refering to is that I think the original buyer could opt to have an SLP level 1 or level 2 suspension package installed, but it wasn't an actual documented numbered car. Not 100% sure someone correct me if I'm wrong. This is a good topic for Brangeta to clear up, I'm suprised he hasn't chimed in yet.

 

yes SLP does have a number for LS1 cars, but didn't put anything on the cars. You can get one from them.

 

maybe in THAT color with THAT interior with THESE SLP options.

But truth is being a SS isn't going to add much value. There were almost twice as many SS's made in 99 compared to '97 and I don't consider my car very rare.

 

Negative sir, that is not a SLP serial number, number has to be stamped into the engine head, intake manifold and oil pan. This looks like a aftermarket label bolt on. Usually anything on that car that can be removed without and heavy labor isn't real or genuine, USUALLY! Like ZR1's serial numbers, Hennessy Performance tags, Callaway, etc. No stick on labels unless its a cosmetic preference with this label you shower looks. If its a true SLP Camaro he should have a certificate for the build.

Also if you look at the picture you can see that the engine is not as clean as the bolts on the emblem. Even the emblem looks brand new. Look at the heards, stock cast...dude this guy is playing like a chump, its not a SLP!!!

 

That's funny all my paper work on this car say it is 2002 SS car # 7947 including Certificate of Birth from SLP that was part of the commemorative portfolio. That is a head plaque you could get from SLP and did not come with the car, as I said in my first post. SLP did not put the numbers on the car but, you can call them with the vin # and they will give you the car #. to the OP sorry for the hijack.

 

I forget the dudes name who was asking about this..? This is what you need the code of authenticity, I was under the impression this sticker was under the hodd but door will do. He needs to show you this sticker and a SLP certificate...I double checked and the engine bay emblem is a accessory that can be purchased when ever you like one.

I am by no means an expert - but I have been looking at purchasing a 98-99 Z28, so I have been doing some reading.

I believe that in 1998 or 99 they began to do some of the SS SLP modifications in the GM Canada plan as well as at SLP. The RPO code for SS mods done at SLP is Y2Y.

This is a kewl website (type in any VIN and it will give you the RPO Codes) and here is the link to a 99 SS SLP I am looking at buying. According to this information there were 4027 SS's made in 99 of which 1548 were modified at SLP directly.
