How much does a broken stud cost to replace?
How much does a broken stud cost to replace?
My friend broke a stud on one of his wheels. I know that studs need to be pressed into the hub. So what kind of labor and price is he looking at?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: How much does a broken stud cost to replace?
a couple of bucks for a new stud and nut
remove the brake caliper and rotor(or drum , depending)take a hammer(larger is good), hit the broken stud good and solid, it should pop out after one or two solid hits, then place the new stud through the rear of the hub, put a few large washers over the rotor side of the stud, put the nut on(backwards if feasable--flat to washers), hold the hub in place(screwdriver or similar) and tighten the nut, it will pull the stud into the hub

Very east to do it yourself, heck, you might even want to upgrade to stronger studs while you're down there. The only thing I do different is, I use a small piece of wood to hit on.

Hmmmm, sounds easy enough. Too bad my friend just moved down to FL
, and he is not mechanically inclined at ALL!! So he'll probebly bring it to a shop anyway.
I was always under the impression that studs needed to be pressed in by a shop?
