I wouldn't do one if you are trying to sell your car. One of the first things I looked for when buying my Camaro was to look up in the rear fenderwells for rubber plastered everywhere from a burnout.

I hate to sound arrogant but, HUH????????????

You should have absolutely no prob, burning rubber from a stand still, a lock-down (brake stand) or reving it up and dropping the clutch.

Even my 305 can leave 60 foot marks with no prob. and I can lock it down for over 10-15 minutes before my trans starts gettin hot. Thats enough to smoke up my street and basically two more blocks down and have it looking like house caught on fire lol (I've done it before lol)

Whats probably happening is one of two things

1) turn the traction control off
2) wait until around 3000+ rpm then drop the clutch, but stay in the gas hard!!!!

Eventually you'll get the hang of it. I think the general idea on the boards though is "burning rubber" = "no-no" unless your tryin to show off. If your racing you want to get as much traction as you can from the line. You might peel a lil bit, but when you hook, you'll feel all that power shooting you past that pesky mustang or import (wait, thats me) I digress.... Practice on a dead end street or an open parking lot, so you can learn your motor and trans. It took me 15 passes to finally know my gearing in my 86.

But I really think your problem is clutch/gas, work on it!!

Oh yea, start with straight line burnouts, then move on to the easiest (right turn burnouts "cheating" lol)

then donuts, and when you feel ready FIGURE 8'S!!!!!!!!!!!

another "cheat" is to do it on a slight incline going UPward.

once you get the wheels spinning, you have to keep an eye on the tach, keep it around 5000 or 5500...
once you DUMP the clutch and the wheels are spinning... move your left foot over to the brake pedal and "feather" it... lightly touch it so you keep the car from rolling too fast (if the car moves forward too fast, the tires will eventually get traction) but keep those wheels spinning as you feather the brake...

The only times i burn out is either in fron of a bunch of mustangs and imports to show off a little
or sometimes late at night (2am) i'll go to some back roads and "cheat" on a hill just for sh*ts and giggles.
