How hard is it to change my own head gaskets?
Re: How hard is it to change my own head gaskets?
Not hard, just time consuming. You will however need an angle torque meter. After 93 the factory specifies torque with a certain degree of additional rotation after the preliminary stepped torque reading is acheived.
Re: How hard is it to change my own head gaskets?
Gonna do the job myself (quoted aleast 1800$). I have the time, I just don't know what tools and kits I need. It seems pretty easy to take everything off, from reading the manual. Assuming the heads are ok (gonna do a compression test before I pull everything.), what do I need to do to them? I was just goning to take them in to see if the are ok, but someone mentioned value job? Also, which kit would be the best. I've read that the four piece intake gasket causes problems. You are supposed to use the side gaskets and RTV the front and back and let it set atleast 24 hours w/out touching it. Any links or help would be appericated thanks.

I got this link that might help out, since it shows a head and cam job but you can read it up and figure which you need to remove the heads, and how to do it. Just disregard the cam part http://afrashteh.com/guide/install.htm
Re: How hard is it to change my own head gaskets?
To pull the heads, I thought I had to pull the rockers and assoc. equipment off? The link makes it sound like you can pull the whole head off w/out even taking the value covers off.
