Sorry for such a stupid question but I have never replaced one before. I don't want to start prying the top lid off and then really screwing it up. I did a search and everyone talks about replacing the switch but not how to do it.

 

You pop up the panel and pry out the switch. Once you see how it comes out, you will wonder why you asked how to do it.

I also assume you are referring to a 4th gen, since you don't seem to think that information is necessary for a good answer.

 

There are small spring clips on each side that hold the panel down into the armrest - notch lets you release the clip, then you'll see how to replace the switch.

 

Thanks guys! It's a 2000 Z. I looked at the little panel and can see the notch on the top side but not on the side closest the driver. Do I just push in the clips toward the middle of the panel. It doesn't seem like there is any play with them.
