How did my car catch on fire?

I leave work tonight, and about 10 mins later while driving, I see and smell white smoke. I realize it's coming from my car. I pull over and pop the hood, and surely enough there is a flame under the pass side header. Looks like a wire caught on fire. Anyone know why or how this could have happened? Needless to say after putting it out with water, that the fire ruined the wire, and i'm now having a miss.

Depends on what wire it was... chances are it got too close to the exhaust and flamed up.

Careful routing of wires with aftermarket exhausts and firesleeves/heatshielding goes a long way.

You're lucky, it could have been a lot worse.

How could it have happened? Easy. Something was too close to your header and/or not heat shielded.
