How can you diagnose an exhaust leak?

Believe i have a pass side exhaust manifold leak. I put my ear up as close as i could, but since GM decided to put my engine under the dashboard, i cant get real close. Is there any way to be sure its the manifold and not some other noise? Its not a rocker, and its way too loud to be injecters.

Are there any black (carbon deposites) spots around the header flange? Thats a good indicator.

Also, put your hand around the manifold when you first start the car in the morning and feel for leaks. You'll have a few seconds to do this before it gets blazing hot.
