How can i temporarily make my fans stay on without a switch?
hello. Its hot outside and i just dont feel comfortable with my camaros temp crawling past half so until i get time to do a fan switch is there a fuse or something i can pull that will trigger the SES light to come on and stay on? or something that will make fans comeon? Also where can i get a fan switch at Autozone? and how much do they cost. thanks! its a 94 Lt1 thank you!
Slow? What do you mean by that? Pulling fuses for sensors is kinda dumb, IMHO. Temp at half way is not even hot. What are you worried about?
SLP, JET make fan switches or you can make your own for under $10.

Well my fans seem to spin at a slower speed when the AC is on compared to when my SES light is on? .. What im worried about is temps get high in stop and go traffic so my temps go up and then when i turn my car off it will get heat soaked. But i guess i will try this jet fan switch
Thanks
Thanks
Make sure you have coolant in it.. If you do then you should drain and really pressure thrust the entire block and heater core with water and make sure you have a nice good flow coming out from the inlet and outlet pipes on the LH and RH side of the block and the heater core hose... it could be a plugged up heater core... does your temp go toward the 280 mark and just goes down when more air hits it?
Today my car overheated the temp went off the peg (pass the red) I turned off the car and opened up the bleeder screws and a bunch of air came out and it stopped within a few seconds. I opened up the radiator cap and no pressure was in it. I started up the car and poured water in radiator. water started bubbling over so i put the cap back on and Air started coming out of the screws i waited 4 a long time and coolant never came out At times i would try to open my radiator cap and a bunch of water would try to gush out and at other times i would open it and nothing ? So i drove it home with the temp up. As i drove it home i messed with my heater it was blowing cold air and when i mess with the hot/cold the air would get hot for a bit and then back cold. when this happened the temp would go down and then back up. So could it be the T-stat or a clogged heater core? I do not suspect my engine really overheated? it drove the same as it does ? When a car overheats alot doesnt it shutoff on you? thanks!
I suppose something important to ask is why is the car overheating in the first place?
I'm not sure how hot it gets in Washington, but the stock cooling system with 50/50
should be more than adequate to handle it. How long has that coolant been in there
and have you ever tested it to make sure it's a proper mix?
A 160* Tstat and a quick change to the tune would allow you to run a little cooler.
But being stock, I just don't see that as a must-have.
Also, never open the radiator cap or bleeder screws while the system is hot (and pressurized)
you can cause yourself a very nasty burn and make a slippery mess all over your engine bay.
When refilling, make sure you work out the air pockets.
Does your radiator still look full? Is there coolant in the overflow tank?
If the waterpump dripping green? Is it even circulating coolant (should be a stready stream just below the radiator cap)
Are the radiator fins clogged with leaves/grass?
What does the oil look like? Think or milkshake?
Any smoke from the tailpipe?
Drive around overheated like that long enough and you'll blow a head gasket.

Thank you for the reply. Well i replaced the thermostat with a 180 degree one and i refilled the coolant with 50/50 mixture. bled it and it doesnt overheat anymore. my oil looks fine and no smoke from the tail pipes. my Rad. took a lot of coolant it was probably empty dont know how it emptied but i dont think i have a blown head gasket tho. But now all is good.. Thanks for the replies.
