home made elec cutout?

Is there any way you could use a vette TB as an electric cut-out? I know that sounds dumb, but If you put on a stronger motor and sealed the blade... if could be a cheaper alternative..? anyone have input?

you can buy high torque servo's from toy car hobby stores for cheap, or maybe a replacement motor for the other electric cutout brands? (with modification of course)

it would seem that by the time you get a t/b and buy a servo you would probly be into it about as much as a cut out. i guess if you got a t/b sitting around it would be worth it. but then again you could sell the t/b on here for about what a cut out would cost. great thinking though. creative.

Oh really? i thought the Wire TB's were cheapo like f body ones. You can get a 20 dollar servo powerful enough, and what 80 bucks for the TB? 100 dollars and an hour or two of work? I think it could work.

Keep in mind, whatever servo you use needs to be heat resistant. The motor on my e-cutout gets as hot as the exhaust. A plastic motor would definitely melt.

yea it can obviously be done - but if you do it wrong or don't know how to -- you may end up just wasting money instead

Re: home made elec cutout?

i tried for days to make a custom cable cutout from a choke cable from a local auto store. but i coudn't get the hinge to work smoothly. i wound up just buying an eletric one from this guy at www.badlanzhpe.com. 125$ cutout is the cheapest one i've found.
