High Beam dosent work
High Beam dosent work
Could anyone please let me know if it would ne hard to fix my high beams? When I pull the lever back nothing happens, there is no click. The part to fix it is only 20 bucks put if I let the shop do it it would probably be 100 or so in labor. Please let me know if this would be a hard or easy fix and whats involved in the fix, becauase the guy at the shop said I would have to take down the whole steering column. Thanks.
Re: High Beam dosent work
not that hard if you have patience and small hands, or dont mind cuts on them. you have to remove the lower steering column, then there are 2 kind of v shaped brackets to undo. The second one holds up the steering column, undo those and let the steering column hang and on the drivers side of the steering column you'll see the high beam setup. I think it is white. check to see if it is justy the peice that actuates your highbeams. it is a little black plastic line that goes from the back of your steering wheel to it. if you do have to replace it ,it is held on with your ignition switch. i think it is 2 small bolts and one philips screw on the top and i dont remember what is on the bottom. i think the bolts are 8mm.
It is kind of a pain in the *** to fix but if you can do it yourself it will save a bunch of money. and if your ignition switch goes you'll now know how to change that to. mine just went
If you have a book that will help to and if you dont then i suggest buying one, for anything else you might need to fix down the road. you save alot of money doing things yourself.

Re: High Beam dosent work
Look through my ignition switch replacement guide and you will see the dimmer switch. You need to first see if the rod is moving when you operate the MFL. Once you get in there, you will see how it works.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I have this exact same problem, and it is the ONLY thing preventing me from passing my state inspection.
The highbeam action worked fine when I test drove the car (4 days ago) and I bought it the same day, but for some reason when I took it to inspection the day before, it doesn't click back, nothing happens, just like "z28forlife" says his doesn't.
There is a wire which is kind of loose, leading down the side of the highbeam/wiper/blinker lever, which may or may not be preventing me from clicking it backwards to activate the highbeams. I think I will check it again in daylight, but I also am having this same problem.
(sorry i couldn't find in that tech writeup of how to adjust the lever)

high beam switch = dimmer switch. The rod that runs into the white part of the switch is what moves when you pull back on the turn signal lever to switch between high beams annd lows.
