HELP!!! water in the intake
my friend got caught in the storm today and hydroplaned into a large (approx2 feet deep) puddle. Sucked an ***-load of water in the intake and car stalled out and had to have it towed home. He doesnt know much about cars and mechanics, so i am going over to help him tomorrow. I was just going to pull the plugs and crank all of the water out. check/clean MAF sensors, spark plugs, and o2's. put the plugs back in, let it crank a bit to build some compression and cross our figers that he didnt do more damage and start her up.
is this the right thing to do? Any suggestions.

at worst, he bent a rod/windowed the block, depends on the RPM when it sucked the water
but if he's lucky, just pull the plugs and get the water out, if it shackes after you get it back together and running, probably bent a rod

Re: HELP!!! water in the intake
his car isnt a camaro...its a DOHC v6. so he wont have any rods. it sucked water in a low rpm...almost idle. i think he will be ok, but i cant tell for sure till i pull the plugs. i hope he didnt mess his valves all up.

Re: HELP!!! water in the intake
definatly. that is the first thing we are going to do. should i change the filter? i was just gonna drain and put new oil in. then see if we can get it running, then change the oil/filter again.

well...here is how it went. got over there. drained the oil. changed the filter. replaced oil plug. filled with 5 quarts. oil started coming out the bottom of the engine. at first though i thought he put a connecting rod through the block. on closer inspection, i saw it was just the oil pan gasket. so i removed the oil pan. and there it was...staring me right in the eye. a 2" piece of connecting rod and a bunch of metal shards. he toasted the bottom end. and possibly the top end. i didnt take the heads off. either way, its a new car, so he is gonna try to go through factory warrenty (play stupid) or take an insurance claim.
