help, im having a crisis.

im thinking of ditching my 96 z and getting an ls1 car. ive gone over all the pros and cons befor, and ls1s definatly have more pros. But i love my 96 ive hade it for almost 4 yrs and it would be very hard to part with it. ive only driven it 3 times in the last two years, between deployments and im stationed in germany. i dont know what to do should i give in to temptation or should i stay loyal?

I was in the military for 6 years, 4.5 years on a ship so I know what it is like to not be able to drive your car for while. If I were you, I would sell the Z and buy a beater to drive. Save up a lot of money over the next couple of years and buy a newer Z with cash or you could buy a newer C-5.

Re: help, im having a crisis.

why do you wnat to sell it for a newer one. They are afterall pretty much the same car except for engine and a few other small things? Parts are much cheaper to buy for the LT1. I'm looking for a supercharer for mine and notice they are 1000 bucks moe than the Lt1 are. I would say just keep the old one. I miss the low end torque that my LT1 had, the LS1 is great and pulls real hard, but down below 3000 grand it just doesn't move like I would like it to.

Re: help, im having a crisis.

i got a beater, you need it to get around in germany. my thing is that the ls1 has more potential than the lt1, and has alittle more nutz from the get go. they are not making any more lt1 cars, the ls1 is the new bully on the block. hell the ls2 will soon be giving wedgies to the ls1, i feel like im behind, im thinking its time to move on, and get a new girl. the money is not an issue. i need someone to provide me with a concrete reason not to go ls1.

Re: help, im having a crisis.

uummm theres more aftermarket parts for the LT1.

there cheaper to build

and from what i hear, they stay together longer when you build em. i know a guy who actually hacked up a 1999 ss just to put a LT1 back into it, he blew up 3 LS`1 and he only had a small amount of spray.

since he put the LT1 in there he hasn`t blown it yet.

do what i did, change your interior, and front end but keep the LT1, then you can have the best of both worlds.

Re: help, im having a crisis.

I had a '96 Z28 and in a fit of practicality I've regretted ever since I traded it for a Camry for my wife. I just got an '02 SS to replace it, for a lot more money and a little more zip. I would say keep the '96, I kind of wish I still had mine. It's a long run for a short slide to upgrade, and I'm not sure it's that much of an upgrade.

Re: help, im having a crisis.

reasons to keep it...

1..you already have it and you know you like it (color, options..etc)

2..you aren't putting many miles on it so it will stay in good shape

3..with minimal mods you can be putting out serious hp

4..to be different...everyone has LS1 cars now...since the LT1s are getting older and harder to find in decent shape

5..96 was the return of the SS...that's kindda cool i think

The LS1 may ba a little faster than the LT1 when they're stock, but who keeps 'em stock for long?

A 700hp LT1 makes just as much power as a 700hp LS1, it just cost a lot less.

Re: help, im having a crisis.

im kinda jumpin the gun with this whole sell my z thing. I got another year and a half in the army, so i got some time to sit on the decision. I got at least one deployment left, and that should carry me to the end of my enlistment so when i come back i should have some serious money to play with, but i need to get another car to get back and forth to school, something good on gas but not a total beater, and whatever money is left after that is for an apartment, and after that its all for my wheels. i figure i could get around 12,000 for the z, and have enough to buy something with low miles, or i could just dump it all into my z. the only reason im thinking about this is cause when i was home over the holidays my buddy had just dumped around 6000 into his 01 ss, and i used to be able to take him and now i cant even come close. i was very impressed with how much power he got out of the things that he did. This is such a damn hard decision to make, i appreciate all the input guys, keep it coming.

Hate to break it to ya, but you can't get $12,000 for a '96 Z28. Blue book value is more like $6,000. You'd be better off keeping it and gettin a stroker for it.

Re: help, im having a crisis.

depends on where you are selling it. in europe ive seen some people sell mid 90s camaro s for obsene amounts of money, like upwards of 20,000, and im not even embelishing. and i could have it shiped out here for free. its tempting. Beleve it or not but europeans love american sports cars.

Wow, cool. I forgot they've got a thing for American cars. Probably because they're driving those little Citroens!

Re: help, im having a crisis.

I only got $8,800 for my '96 (trade in credit), and that was 1 1/2 years ago. I guess I should have tried to sell it in Europe.
