Question heater hoses

Can a person just run regular heater hoses instead of what came from the factory on a 1994 Z28?

Question heater hoses

I just want to use the red heater hose that you can get at any parts store, instead of having to pay an arm and a leg for the factory set up. Just wondering if that will work?

I am guessing the metal portions are there to prevent damage from heat. Might not be such a good idea to eliminate that, unless you are going to reroute them (then, it's going to look a bit ugly).

Individual rubber portions of the hose can be replaced at a nominal cost. You don't have to buy the whole thing.
