I am guessing the metal portions are there to prevent damage from heat. Might not be such a good idea to eliminate that, unless you are going to reroute them (then, it's going to look a bit ugly).
Individual rubber portions of the hose can be replaced at a nominal cost. You don't have to buy the whole thing.
