headlight dimmer problems

headlight dimmer problems

Hey guys My 94 sometimes will change from low to hi but most time it wont. and if it does change to brights its a mother bear to get back on low any suggestions

You may need to adjust the switch. You can find pics of it in my ignition switch R&R on my Tech Page.

sounds like you switch needs to be adjusted like shbox said.


It has 2 screws and the holes in the switch are slotted, Its simple to adjust or replace.

ok so do I loosen the bolts and slide the whole assembly?

Yes, you must be blind.

Yes. Be careful not to bother the position of the ignition switch that is held down by the same bolts.

Sometime I have to wiggle my steering wheel around to get the brights off it, or adjust it all the way to the top and still push up on it some.

Is it the same problem?

Adjusting would probably help yours also, but if you can move the wheel much after you release your tilt, then you probably need to have your column tightened and then adjust your switch. There are typically 3 screws about halfway down the column, inside that control the tightness of the tilt, you have to take a lot out of the way to get to them and they are a pain. If you've never tore into a column before, find someone who knows what they are doing in an older GM column.
