Question Have any of you had to change any sensors due to Dex Cool "gooping up" on them ?

My '99 went thru 3 low coolant sensors before I blew it off & unplugged the thing.

Since the problem went away after the car reached a certain temp and was shut off & restarted ( only reads on start up) I kinda suspect that it was gooped up.

Look in your coolant reserve tank & you will see what I mean - the dipstick looks like it has pollen on it !

At any rate, I am having troubles w/ a stubborn ( read delayed) converter lock up, and have been told it is controlled by the PCM - which reads engine temps to hold up lockup until a certain point.

So, I am wondering if that sensor is dirty - and if anyone else has been down this road.

I have a Vigilante 2800 stall if that makes any difference - there is an additional tranny cooler installed in series w/ the factory unit.

Thanks !

Britt

The coolant level sensors were so bad that GM quit using them in 2000. So don't base the coolants performance on that.

Wish i could help, but im having a lock up issue myself--I had a Yank 2800, now im back to my stock tc, I have the same goop your talking about, my car sometimes will not go into lock-up. My PCM has been reprogrammed, so it wont go into lock up untill 50plus mph. Sometimes it will go into lockup and sometimes it will wait several miles, then sometimes it will go into lock up right away, didnt know it could be a sensor. Ive posted several times in different areas of this site with no help. Dwayne

Thumbs up Dwayne - here is what I have gleaned.

I searched for my posts in LS1 tech and found:

The First Bit of info !

Here is Part II.

Still haven't changed the thing as I was hoping someone else had run across this & could say "Yeah" or Nay" .

Plus - I am lazy. It's easier to bee-yotch than experiment.

Dex Cool is kinda expensive, too.

Im sorry to jump on your thread, but this has been the most info ive gotten, when ive ask before. I have a big Hayden tranny cooler still on my car as i was told when you have a high stall you need it, kept it on my car after i went back to my stock tc.. Sometimes my car has no problems with lock up. Thanks for the info. Now to find that sensor on my LT-1. Thanks Dwayne

Why was your PCM reprogrammed ?

The reason I ask is that mine was, too.

It was done by the dealer - I had instrument cluster issues and when I replaced the cluster the dam airbag light would not go off.

After the reprograming, I'd swear the car ran stronger - but I truthfully don't remember when the lock up issues started.

Sorry, ive been to work,I got my pcm reprorammed by Pcmforless, since i had my small cam installed, i had some code problems. He reprogrammed my shift points on his on thinking i wanted it setup for racing. Not really his fault. Good work and seems like a good guy. Dwayne
