Hatch motor went last night! Help! an unlocked camaro is scary

the motor will not push up the latch at all thus it won't lock! how can i get the hatch locked until i can get the time and parts to fix the motor?

pull the panel apart and you can manually lower the locking mechanism...

had to do it several times on my 87 iroc...annoying...ruined my $400 cd changer cause i didn't know it was open and didn't lock...

wish i could describe it more...but it's been years

the motor is stuck in the down and released position. i took off the plastic trim cover and started to look at it but i ran out of daylight. i couldn't get it to move up manually and didn't want to break anything permanantly without checking into it first.
can i just reach in and push it up? how do i get the latch to grab and hold the hatch?
it's funny cause my pop had the same exact car brand new in 86 and i remember saying that the hatch motor looks like a problem waiting to happen.
