Great all around milage tire... this one seeems to be the one

From tire rack ratings anyways the firestone firehawk indy 500 seems to be the best all around daily tire I could find in the 245 50 16 tire size. has excellent noise comfort and especially treadwear ratings and has a 55000 mile warranty. and has high dry and wet traction ratings..... just thought I would point this out at just 92 bucks a tire it seems like a deal. Anyone ever used them??

I agree, looks like a pretty good everyday tire. I am just a little skeptical of how a tire with a 500 tread wear rating will do in the rain.

my dad has those on his 2000 Z28.

his only complaint is the price, i tried to explain to him that all tires are expensive for his car.....he's not informed on sports car tire prices....he drove a 88 chevy pickup before he got his Z.

he said they're A LOT better in the rain than the stock tires, whatever they were(he bought his car new, it' came with Z rated tires) i think they were goodyears.

Those Indy 500's are only T-rated. :blah:

I wouldn't suggest putting T-rated tires on an F-body, at least not on one equipeed with a V8. Even if some of them came from the factory with such tires...

But that's just me...

Well If I use these I wont be hauling *** in them... Ill have another set of wheels and tires for that. As long as T rated lets me drive 75 on the highway I dont care heh.

It's not just about how fast you are driving. It is also about the handling characteristics of the tire.

And there is a definite difference between a T-rated and a Z-rated tire.

Your car, your tires.

like i said, my dads car has these tires. and i think they grip pretty well. i don't take corners super fast in his car, cause it's not my car, and i hardly ever drive it, but i think they grip pretty good for street tires.

they're also extremely smooth.... a lot smoother than my car. it could just be his car is newer than mine, but it seems to handle 5x better.
mine has 50,000 more miles. and his is Ttops, mine isn't and his still feels more solid.

I spent $99 a piece on sumitomo HTR+ tires for my SS, 275/40/17, Z rated. Tires lasted 15k of crazy driving on the rear, fronts twice as long. Z-rated, good traction, great rain capabilities. No complaints at all, I'll never use another tire as a cheap radial again. These things are too good for what they cost.

Pirellis

Firestone Firehawks

I would suggest one of these. I have the Pirellis on my car, and they're holding up pretty well, no wierd activities, dry traction is much better than those ultraZs I had on the rear before. No hydroplaning that I have noticed.

Very true, if you have no plans on exceeding 118 mph, you won't go beyond the limits on a T rated tire. As for buying the high speed rated ones, the reasons are close to the same as buying a Camaro. I don't drive around like a maniac all the time, but I like knowing that if I want to, I can. We don't need 300+ hp, but it's on tap if we need it. We don't need z rated tires, but it's nice to know they're there if any of us ever feel the need to actually go that fast.

If that's what you want to do... I prefer traction, myself. If I had some extra cash I'd buy some used ss rims and have drag radials on them for use on the weekends...
