Gauge cluster ?
Help me prove a point guys. Some idiot off ebay keeps trying to say i'm wrong and he knows everythign b/c he works for GM lol. Alright i am selling a 120 mph cluster out of a z28(93-96 style). He claims i am lieing about it. I tried telling him that the z28s and trans am that came with h series tires came with the 120 speedo and a speed limiter on them. He claims this is false and he knows b/c he works for GM. I told him to post up here but he was afraid that everyone who owns them would not know or somehting so i decided to post up. So guys, can you get a z28 with a 120 speedo?

Yep, it's true, if the Z-28's (don't know about the Firebird), had the h-rated tires, and they weren't 245/5016's either, they were I think 235's. But they were speed limited to 115-120, and had a 115 or 120 speedo. I'm pretty sure it was 115 because my good friends 94Z had it. It used to make him mad because in my 94 mustang gt, I would walk by him once he hit the speed limiter. I traded my 94gt for my 95 Z-28.

Re: Gauge cluster ?
Yes sir, I have a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 sitting in my garage that has a stock gauge cluster, with the 120 speedometer on it. I can get pics if you really need it. I thought that only TA's had the 150 speedo on them and the Z-28's had the 120 on them (in 94 at least). I haven't seen a 1994 Z-28 in real life other than my own. According to my tire loading sticker on the car, it originally came with P235/55R16's S rated tires. I have P245/50R16's on it right now.
So you can have a Z-28 with a 120 mph speedometer.

Alright thanks guys. I know they came with them, i was just looking for some support on it to prove a point. I had a 94 trans am in the shop before and it had a 120 mph in it also. The GM tech guy was just trying to tell me that it was impossible to get a 120 mph in a z28.

Are these Z28s also V6s? I saw a girl with a red Z28 just like mine and when I asked her about the speed she said it was just a V6.

Re: Gauge cluster ?
it's also based on the gear ratio, automatic or stick.
you could get a 94 t/a with a 3.42 gear ratio in a six speed and it would have a 155 speedo, but likewise, a 94 t/a, with 2.73's and an A4, would have a 115 speedo. I have parted several cars and run into the same thing every time. just throwing in my .02

Re: Gauge cluster ?
It's totally based upon the factory tires. No Z rated tires? You get a speed limiter and lame speedo to match.
It's that simple.
Far as it being tied to 2.73's, that's not right. Though it would be more likely someone not opting for 3.23's would also stinge out on the tires, it's absolutely possible for a 2.73+150 build to exist.

Re: Gauge cluster ?
Yeah it is dependent on the tires as i understand it. H series tire cars came with the lower speedo. I have parted out about 9 or 10 fbodies...just wanted to post up to prove a point to a "GM Tech" who refuses to believe a lower mph speedo came in a z28.
