Gas mileage question

I'm considering getting a 2000 z28 stock automatic to use as a daily driver, and I've got my 2010 stock SS with a standard. I've already looked up the mpg fuel ratings, and I know there are lots of factors that go into gas mileage.

But right now my SS is getting horrible gas mileage (around 12.6 almost all city), most likely because this is the first standard I've owned and I've had to get used to it. Just wondering if you guys think I could get better gas mileage on the ls1 auto than the ls3.

I know the easy answer would be to get a v6 or some other random car with good mpg to use as a daily driver, but I'm wanting that z28 haha, Thanks

Re: Gas mileage question

A lot of factors can influence mpg man. Depending on driving habits, traffic, city/highway. With my 99 Z28 M6 LS1, I'm getting about 27-28 mpg highway. City I'm getting about 22-24mpg in moderate to light traffic.

Re: Gas mileage question

Is it easier to buy another car or learn how to drive? I know it sounds harsh, but if your driving is causing that low of gas mileage, it must not be very good. Perhaps some more practice...

My 97 LT1 auto got 15 city and 25 on the highway. My friend's F-Bird LS1 auto was about 1/2 to 1 MPG better on average.

NOt at all .. Stick with the v-8 as they get almost the same milage as the v-6 do. I have a 01 ss man, with a torquer v2 full exhuast full bolt ons ported heads, pushing somewhere around the 450 at the crank and i achieve 29 m.p.g. hwy.

I drove it on the freeway at 75-80 m.p.h. on a 520 mile trip and acheive 26 m.p.g. Of course my car is tuned. While driving in the city observe the rp.m. and also skip some gears. Like try 1st to 3Rd and then 3rd to 5th in town.. It helps big time from what i have noticed.. I check my car consistantly as i am big into m.p.g. Who would have thought a modified camaro could acheive 29 m.p.g.
