Gas guage fix?

I know that the gas gauges in these cars are way off. At least buy a 1/4 tank, but has anyone filled the tank then removed the needle and placed it on full?? I bought a flamed dash kit for my truck and it came with a tool to safely remove the needles from the cluster. Just wondering if anyone has tryed this. Also what kind of mileage should i be getting with an a4 and 342 gears. So far I have gotten about 21mpg.

If you moved the needle to full, then when the tank was on empty the needle would be way below the "E." Therefore theres no sense in moving the needle, just realize its going to fall faster once you pass the first half of the tank.

Dependind on year of car the gauge could be calibrated wrong after installing some overlays. 97+ camaros got electronic clusters so it doesn't matter what you do to the needles as longs as you don't remove them dunno if you can rotate them past their normal stop point and past the start point and have it be fine.. they auto calibrate when you plug the cluster back in.

our gas gauges arn't really "off" per say. they show height of fuel in the tank, full height, half, etc. since our tanks are V shaped this causes a ever faster drop in level as you suck fuel out of it. at 1/4 tank figure... 50 miles at best. 30 at worst.

the gauges are accurate in the sense that they show the level of the fuel(E, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, F), but not the true VOLUME(0 gallons through 18ish)

I say height you say level. Same thing.

Re: Gas guage fix?

It just seems to me that if I moved it the 1/4 that it was off that it would be alot closer to correct. Because if its almost empty at 1/4 then i should be able to have it closer to Empty. Seems like common sense to me, but then again common sense is'nt that common around here. I learned that just by going to work. Just thought that it would be worth a shot. But I can live with it like it is. Thanks for the feed back

Moving the needle won't help. The gauge will still move in the same linear fashion as before. The needle will be just in a different place.

Re: Gas guage fix?

To "fix" the gauge you would have to get a fuel cell not move the needle.
