Gas gauge full position?

I just filled my car up for the first time and the reading on gas gauge is WAY past the full mark... Looks like full plus 1/4 a tank... Is this normal or do most gauges sit on or a LITTLE past the full mark? I'm thinking I may have to pull the needle and reset it to the "F" position if it's too far off.

Don't screw with the needle. If you did a search, you would find that this is the way all gauges are.

Way past full= actually full
¾=actually about ½
½=actually about ¼
¼=actually a few gallons or less

The farther the gauge goes down, the faster it drops. When you get near the last line on the empty side, you better be near a gas station. Do not run your car out of gas. It is very hard on the fuel pump and may result in pump failure.

What can you do to fix it? Nothing, just get used to the way it works and use your trip odometer to gauge your mileage.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to get used to it... Great tech page by the way, I've already used it a few times.
