Front Grill

Is there a reason why there is "camaro" behind the grill? If so, why did gm put the black grill there?

Re: Front Grill

If by "black grill" you mean the black plastic insert with Camaro embossed on it, I have no idea why GM did that. The car's are bottom breathers, anyway. I'm thinking of attaching a billet aluminum grill to cover it up. Any suggestions re: billet grille?

thats the one. i want to take it off, but do not like the look of the 'divits' were the grill snaps into. i was thinking of getting the SLP 'SS' grill. it is painted black, and is a bit more open for air. i personally do not like the look of the billet aluminum grills. IMO

Thumbs up Re: Front Grill

Yes, I just checked the SLP "SS" grille. It's a little pricey, but better looking (maybe less flashy) than billet aluminum, IMO.

Re: Front Grill

Why dont you just prep and paint your stock grill the same as the body. I did. I think it looks much better the same color. Heck I even had my roof repainted SOM. It may look like a 6cyl, but I know better

So on my 97Z28 my top came black?
It's green the same colour as the car.
But I got it used and it was in a little acident.
So I think.
It was curb checked kinda hard from what I could see.
And it was repainted.
But not by me.
So a stock Z28 sould have a black top?
Thanks,

Chris G.

Re: Front Grill

I cant really say if all 4th gen 93-02 Zs had black roofs. I honestly didnt know mine would have a black roof when I ordered it. The book and Chevy people never said anything about a black roof. I thought my car looked like a pumpkin all it needed was black teeth painted on the doors. I had the roof replaced under warrenty for bubbles and had it painted SOM car looks right to me now

Re: Front Grill

I dont mind the black roof. i tinted all the windows, so it looks cool. same thing with the front grill.

also, i thought it was only the 97 SS and 98-02 ls1 that came with the black roof.

"it is painted black, and is a bit more open for air.

there is no inlet/outlet for air behind the front "grill", they are sealed off by a type of styrofoam as impact resistent cushion.

so the SLP grill really just appears to be more open for air

Re: Front Grill

probably...i think it's on the list of "weight reduction" mods

although it's there for a reason, to help in a front end collision.

and i'm not even sure it would help much with cooling.

Re: Front Grill

Regarding the black roof, I recall when I ordered my Quasar Blue Metallic '96 Z-28, there was an option box to check if I wanted the C-pillar (w/T-tops) body color or black. I chose body color, because the mirrors were body-color. But there was that color option on the C-pillar.

Well that answered my question.
Thanks,

Stick your hand up there. It's open alright. feeds right into the top of the engine compartment.
