Frickin power window motor, Help!

Well, my drivers window on my 94 Z28 works slow & part time,(just like me) . It likes to roll up about 3 inches & then quit until it fells like working again. Personally I hate power windows, how hard is it to swap to a manual crank set up? How hard is it to replace the window motor? Will that fix it? What do you suggest? Is this too many questions? ..later...joe

It sounds like the symptoms of a failing window motor. They aren't that hard to replace, do a search and somebody has a writeup I'm sure. Plus you can get them at Autozone for 50.00 with a lifetime warranty.

Hey I just went to Advance Auto's site and was looking at there motors. They range from like $46 to $139, well the AC Delco motor(the most costly one) has a shipping weight of 8 pounds & all the cheaper ones is more like 3 pounds! Is the AC Delco made that much better or is it for 2 motors or what???

It eventually won't even do that.

I don't know exactly, but based on the easiness of the power window install, I'd say it's easier to replace the motor.

Pretty easy, took me like four hours the first time, did it in less then half that today.

Yes, that should fix it. I suggest getting a power window with a lifetime warranty. The power window write up that should be in every Camaro owners manual.

Re: Frickin power window motor, Help!

It might weight more because it comes with the regulator. You should just need the motor. I say buy the cheap one, becuase my 2nd expensive *** ACDelco power motor died within two years. Bought one off a junk yard for 25$ and still going. First take off the door panel with the window in the full up position. Next get a 'C' clap and lock it in place against the window a frame/door, so the window will not drop when you take the motor out. Find the three silver rivet heads that hold the motor, drill them out. Unplug the motor, pull it out of the regulator, slid out of door. Put new motor in place with bolts/nuts. Which makes it a lot easier the next time you do this and you will be doing this again! Also, good time to adjust your winow and or strikers if needed.

The AC delco one they are selling most likely comes with the window regulator attached to it, the after market ones don't

Or at least that's how the window motor for my car came from the dealership

goto autozone, I paid less then $40 a piece for it, and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Read the install guide on Shoebox's page. If it takes you more then 30-40 mins a side you ARE doing something wrong, or your hands are too big.

a bad channel can cause the same symptoms, if the window has too much play left to right and side to side its the channel. 45$ part from a dealer, and a little harder to replace but not much.

This is the best thing to do. Took me about an hour but I didn't get in a hurry, had to keep an eye on my two kids playing in the front yard.

I would suggest against buying anything with a warranty off of ebay. Don't expect anybody on ebay to warrant a product, half the time you're lucky to get items you pay for, I wouldn't expect them to replace it in a year or two, warranty or not.

Buy one from a big name auto parts store who will still be around in the near future, and who can't back out of their written warranty, you'll thank yourself when they go out again (which they will)

BTW, once you replace your motors the first time, the 2nd/3rd time shouldnt take more then 5 minutes.

Re: Frickin power window motor, Help!

I suggest going with an autozone life time one. I just swapped out my second one on the drivers side. Thankfully i had the box and receipt left over from the last time it went out and i got it replaced for free. It took me about 3 hrs to do the drivers side the first time because my GF wanted to help . When i did my pass. side for the first time it took about 1.5 hrs by myself. When i just replaced the drivers side again this summer i think it took me less than an hour to swap out the motor.

Re: Frickin power window motor, Help!

I put the ACI 82460 from Advance on my drivers side and it's a strong motor... I have an ebay motor on my passenger side and it's not as strong.

Re: Frickin power window motor, Help!

Its easy to change your power window motor. I did mine in about 30 min. You might need some held from someone with small hands and arms like me though. But, its not hard, and Autoaone is the way to go.
