Flashing SES Light on 2001 SS

I have a 2001 SS Camaro 6 speed, the car has 30,000 miles. Up until a week ago the machine has run superbly. Aside from oil changes, tire rotations and air filters I have done no modifications at all. Fuel filter is original.

During the first 30-60 minutes of operating I am getting a flashing SES light. This is accompanied by engine running rough. The flashing SES tends to happen when there is a load on the engine, after 60 minutes or so of highway driving, car runs normal.

I plan on changing the fuel filter for starters. Hoping this will do the trick. Anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas???? Thanks in advance.....Mike

if it's flashing, then it's probably misfiring. Check the wires for any burned, torn, or broken areas, also check the plugs as well. I'd take it to autozone, and have them do a free scan, and then repost what codes it is throwing, so you don't go throwing parts at it for no reason.

Just for the heck of it start the car in complete darkness and rev the engine a little, if it's a plug wire you might see an arc.

Spot on. Flashing SES means your car has a "catalyst depleting condition" (misfire).
