failed inspection... rear brakes?

after every mechanic in the inspection place fought with my wiper blades when i told them they needed a special blade and thats why i hadnt changed em. they get it up on the dyno to do emissions he gets it going to 30mph and hits the brakes the wheels slow down but they didnt come to a complete stop and he failed me for brakes. now i just had these serviced like a year ago new calipers and everything. I think the inspection place is a bunch of idiots but i could be wrong.... arent the rear brakes just the emergency brakes and help the fronts?

The rear stops 40% the front stops 60%, they are not just for "emergency" without the rear brakes the car would stop worse then my tercel.

Why the heck were they screwing around with your wipers???? And yeah, they can fail you for your brakes not working. My brother took his Ford Ranger to emissions and they failed him for it. Hes been driving that truck for over 2 years and we didnt know the rear brakes werent working. It turned out to be a bad ABS valve. Now that truck stops like we never thought possible.

Re: failed inspection... rear brakes?

A brake test while the car is on the Dino? that doesnt make sense

In NJ they take off and then hit them on a strip of the garage.

unless your wipers are defective and ripping or not swiping the glass then they are fine.

My Z24 made it through NJ inspecting a few years back with 3 different brand tires and brakes that didnt have pad, dont ask me how I'm still confused!

You guys need to move down here to Arkansas were there is no inspection! Its awesome, crazy rednecks even can ride four wheelers in town with a $10 sticker you get from the city hall, its retarded. I have 20% tint over my entire front window and never have to worry about it. I would say 1 out of every 5 trucks in my town have straight exhaust or the loudest f*&k&$g stupid glasspacks that you have ever heard. Its nuts around here! Anyway yeah as long as it runs you can drive it around.

So.....what's the average cost of living down there? Hehehe. I think I may have to move. Since NY is California's bitch when it comes to EPA and emissions BS I'll be in the same boat as most of you guys soon (next year in fact when my inspection is due). I love how the US tries to be all goodie goodie and strict on emissions, which is great to a point, while other countries drive around total junk on wheels (well....they USUALLY have wheels).

Re: failed inspection... rear brakes?

Yes, I just found out about the wiper blades. Now I believe GM designers are THE DUMBEST engineers in the world! Why would they make them upside down compared to all the rest in the world? I guess maybe thats the only way they can design them WITH THEIR HEADS UP THEIR A$$!

Now, I might really be screwed. I cut the old blade hangers off because the black was gone on them. Is there a replacement that is upside down styled? For those that do not know the problem, the hook that normally has the opening on the bottom has the opening on the top. Good old geniuses that also didn't put a gasket on the back of the LT1 manifold either. BRIALLIANT!

Oh, and add on the Sears drimel that I used to cut it off with. Another equally great design! It turns clockwise which shoots the shavings off toward you if you right handed. When your done cutting you never have to worry about clean up, it all went up your nose or on your shirt!!! BRIALLIANT!

Re: failed inspection... rear brakes?

The Dremel has to turn that way or the screw that holds your accessories would loosen and fly off...probably and most likely hitting you in the face.

The wipers are probably designed this way to keep a lower profile. We drive sleek aerodynamic high-performance vehicles...not pickup trucks.
