What size is the factory exhaust on my 94 Z? I want to free up some restriction in the exhaust but right now my budget is real slim. Is the factory exhaust 3 or 2.5 inch? Where is the bigger restriction in the cat or the muffler? I can pull the cat and weld a straight piece of pipe in but my buddy at the muffler shop said its not worth it because the cat is not even restrictive. I can also get a 3" muffler cheap and run a single tail pipe.

 

you could also just unbolt the cat where it is and push the pipe behind it to the center of the car. It sounds good, anyway.

 

Your friend is right, the cat is not that restrictive and a cheap and easy way to gain some quick ponies would be to just weld a cutout before the muffler.

 

The factory intermediate pipe is 2.75".
