Re: f-bodies handle like crap

The guy's seriously are not worth the wast of time. I had an argument with someone who has a 3000GT. He said he read in a magazine his car could do 15-16 second quarter miles. He said it had to atleast be a 13-14 second car. That's when I jumped in and said my car could blow his doors off and it is a 13-14 second car. Of course he has to come back with, "your car is stock", well I say, "your's is too, plus it has 2 less cylinders, and half as many liters, I know your car can't run 13-14s".

F-bodies definitely are not the prime car for suspension from the factory, although they are not junk. With very few mods they can be though. Shocks, panhard, springs and lcas, and you can have a pretty stout car.

Re: f-bodies handle like crap

Anyone remember a few years ago when the S2000 first came out, it was placed in the same class as the F-Body's in SoloII. But it was then removed because it couldn't keep up on the track and placed in a slower class?

Re: f-bodies handle like crap

Got bored, so I looked up some random SoloII results and found this.

http://www.autocrossersinc.net/docs/...11-06-2005.pdf

Scroll down to F-Stock and compare it to A/B/C/D/E/G- Stock and Street Touring Street.

Now, scroll down to PAX Results. The second fastest time was done with a Camaro.

Re: f-bodies handle like crap

People probably just don't know or obviously haven't driven an f-body before. When I first started looking for one, just about every test I read complained about suspension and handeling; how every little bump felt like a huge pothole.

I figured I'd see how it felt and them make my own personal judgement. I knew I was gonna be disappointed if it did handle poorly, because you can't even go to the center of town here without hitting backroads; I knew I would want to have fun but wanted an f-body. Well, I picked up my current z28 recently and found it handles really well, better than expected. Sure some factors affect it; wet roads, sand/dirt from all the snow, but I haven't spun out yet on the roads, even when I think I am pushing the car. For me, this was definitly proving everything I've read so far wrong.

As for suspension, well after being used to 4x4 trucks, it took some getting used to, but I honestly can't complain. So maybe the people that say our cars handle like crap need to get in one and have some fun, and looking for something to complain about. And if they have driven or even owned an f-body and think that, well...to each their own.

Re: f-bodies handle like crap

Back when I had my license I gave a friend(who owns a Civic, thinks VTEC is superior.. but he's still cool) a ride to get something to eat after school, when I was just driving normally and he was like "wow your car is a lot more ballsy than I expected" and he was amazed at the fact that I only have to go to 2200rpms before I let the tranny shift itself.

Then I roasted the tires for about 150ft and he about crapped himself

He's looking to sell his Civic and get a 3rd gen to build for auto-x now

There ya go... that's part of it right there. Most of the import guys who talk sh*t about the f-bods have never been in one to know the difference. All they know are imports.

Re: f-bodies handle like crap

actually, my friend that said f-bodies dont handle well is the reason I have my car.
he test drove my car in august of 2003 and said it had too much power for him (at the time it was a bone stock auto 2.73 rear car with over 100k miles... not exactly a power house.) I was in a situation that I could afford a car, went to test drive it, fell in love and bought it.

I guess I owe the joy of the past 2 1/2 years to him being a sissy

Like the time some kid in a FWD Lancer said he felt safer in the rain in his Lancer driving fast than a RWD V8....

Re: f-bodies handle like crap

Read this road test, especially the specs, Z28 is 3 seconds faster around a track than the Acura RSX,Celica GTS,Jetta, Eclipse.

Re: f-bodies handle like crap

that article sure does alot of trashing on that Z28.
all those cars tested were the "top of the line" models... why didnt they test an SS with factory suspension upgrades? the resulting gap would be even greater.
