exhaust question
exhaust question
since i'm getting my exhaust done early this summer, i was talking to my dad about what he had done with his '77. he said it was just 2.5 inch pipe from each exhaust manifold back, without any headers. would i be able to do the same thing with my '98? of course i would have the cat removed and would buy a dummy 02 sensor. do i just place the dummy sensor in the spot of the old one (after the cat?) and everything should function fine after that?
Re: exhaust question
WHat exactly are you asking? You want to do duals? The stock exh on a 98 is the 2.5 inch y-pipe. Not sure on the cat back size. I'm pretty sure it's 2.5 inch. You can do a 3" Y w/ a 3" catback. SLP sells a stock replacement performance Y-pipe. I don't think it'd fit a catless stock system.
Re: exhaust question
you should have 2 cats but i am not sure on an LS1 car.....and dual exhaust is alot easier to run on a 2nd gen than a 4th. if you get O2 simulaters and remove your cats you shouldnt throw any trouble codes. look on the LS1 forums, plenty of people are running duals. plenty of info if you search on there. hope i was some hel.

Re: exhaust question
this is for a V6. the question i am asking is, could i make true duals with a V6 coming straight off each exhaust manifold without headers?
i know i can get a dummy oxygen sensor for after where the cat would be, but would adding duals off each manifold require that i have dummy upstream (2) sensors? or would i even need to replace the upstream sensors at all?

Re: exhaust question
I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you are asking, but sure if you want to run dual exhaust off the factory exhaust manifolds I'm sure you could build something that would work, but most people who are looking to install dual exhaust are looking for the sound and performance gains wo I don't know why you wouldn't bother installing headers as well.

Re: exhaust question
any O2's after the cat you will have to get a simulater for. the front O2's (the ones in front of the cat) are vital to make the car run properly. those are what helps trim in your A/F.
