Exhaust question

I will be installing the mac mid length and off road y-pipe combo on my car.

I have heard that rasp is a big issue when running a system like this.

Will my flowmaster do I good job of holding back some of that rasp?

What is the best cat-back to run for eliminating rasp with headers and no cats???

Will this combo make my car a solid 12 second machine with a good driver?

thanks guys

Oh yeah, I was thinking of getting the TSP Rumbler cat-back for ultimate flow and performance, but I thought that might be really loud and raspy???

I know that an SLP Loudmouth with Long Tube headers is incredibly loud and raspy .. it may be the same with the TSP Rumbler. However that may be a different story with midlength headers, but I doubt the difference would be significant.

I actually am running long tube headers with an offroad ypipe and a flowmaster muffler. I still get rasp but it sounds mean, and setting of car alarms is always a plus. Personally, I actually don't mind a little rasp.

Oh and timewise .. I'm a pretty crappy driver and haven't had much practice as I'm running higher than some stock vehicles w/ a best of 13.7 seconds and a best mph of 107. However, I see alot of high 60 foots .. 2.3 - 2.5. I would think an average driver, average car could run low 13's with LT's / midlengths.

Ok, so I think Ill just keep the flowmaster on and save 400 bucks, being it is only about a 1 year old system that is still in really good shape.

I was thinking 12's would be attainable with a full exhaust, lid and K&N, and also my car being about 100-150 pounds lighter than most, as 12's have been gotten with stock ls1 cars before, though it is really rare.

I think you should be able to hit 12's but you are going to need a 60' time of 2.1 or less to get it. Not too shure about the rasp, but if you don't like it you could always just swap the muffler out and go with a Hooker or Magnaflow muffler for fairly cheap (not the full cat-back) I really don't mind rasp....I plan on keeping my LM along with LT's and ORP= HORSE POWER

I have heard that the hooker aerochamber is an awesome muffler to use with headers....is this true???

Would it fit right in place of my flowmaster muffler?

Yes that hooker muffler is nice and sounds great.....hey you gotta love hookers It should be pretty close in size(length) and inlet and outlet postions to the jokemaster you have in there... but it may require some fabricating to get it to work

I personally just have a magnaflow cat-back system on my 01' ss and it sounds great, fairly quiet idle and low rpm sound. Beautiful deep tone, but then when you rip into her, she sounds really good, an aggressive, but deep tone. I have heard magnaflow on a 99' Z with headers, cams, off-road y-pipe... good lord was it loud... I loved every bit of it! Talk about a car that sounds absolutely beautiful for the american muscle car enthusiast! If you want quiet, stay away from it, if not go for it... It's the best performing cat-back system as well... dynoing for only a .7 rwhp loss as compared to running a cut-out before the muffler! Who said a muffler had to be restrictive?

Headers + Flowmaster = stupid loud. I had Jet-Hot LT's on my 97 LT1 with no cats and a Flowmaster rear section. It sounded downright evil, but would wake the dead.

Leaving cats on the car will cut down on volume, rasp, and resonance. Other systems, like the Magnaflow will cut down on this as well.

I already got the rear 02 simulators off of ebay for 50 bucks. As soon as I get my credit card clear (I only have a 500 dollar limit).

I am ordering the mac 1 3/4 headers and off road y.

How much horsepower will I lose having the flowmaster compared to the magnaflow???
Would it even be noticeable?

Honestly the horsepower loss will pretty much be null and void... you'll probably lose 2 rwhp... it's not gonna make that much difference.... I just think Magnaflow was meant for gm and flowmaster was meant for ford and dodge... the magnaflow sounds ten times better in my view... but that's just me
