Exhaust to loud for DE inspection, any quick fixes to temp quiet it down?
Exhaust to loud for DE inspection, any quick fixes to temp quiet it down?
Took the car through DE inspection and for the first time EVER had the guy test the db level of the exhaust. It was 100.4. Anything I can do to temporarly quiet it down, to get it to pass that doesnt involve removing the entire exhaust?

Summit sells exhaust inserts that are supposed to quiet things down. I don't have first have experience though so many someone else will chime in.

The car chemistry inserts are a great way to tomporarily quiet the exhaust. Insert it just before the I pipe and it will make a big difference. The two disc unit should be more than enough.
When I was involved in Formula SAE, we had to comply with dB requirements. Our car failed (miserably). To get it to pass we stuffed steel wool in the exhaust for the dB retest. Worked fine for quieting the engine, but the wool blew out very easily (steel wool, fresh from a visit to your exhaust system internals, will hurt like hell when it suddenly pops out and stickes to your leg; curse loud to aleviate pain). You'd have to do something to keep it in place until you got through the test.

I know that they have something called the cone of silence in some ss exhausts. http://ls1sounds.com/pics/SLP/cone_of_silence.jpg
MAybe you can jam something in there that shape and it will quiet things down a bit. If you have a hypertech, lower your rev limiter temporarily so they cant take it so high.
