Exhaust dilemma

My 98 TA has a Borla catback system, and I have been having trouble with it hitting on the brace or whatever they call that thing when I go over bumps. It's about midways under the car, and seems to be a safety brace incase the exhaust would fall. My question is, is that all it does, or does it also play a part in chassis stiffness? Hopefully you guys know what part I am talking about. 4 bolts hold it on, 2 on each side, and it is black, with a turn made in it to fit around the exhaust. Thanks!

Re: Exhaust dilemma

Thats the "tunnel brace" which many people have removed will no ill effects. Most with LT headers remove it to make room for the Y pipe...You can remove it...

agreed.

i've had mine out for a year with no problems. you could also make some spacers to lower it. or raise you exhaust so it doesn't hit.

AGreed, my Bolra Ypipe was hitting that brace, all i did was add some washers to it and spaced it out a bit, now no more hitting
