Engine questions

Does anyone know whether a 350 Tbi engine from a truck will work in place of a 305 Carb engine. I can get the 350 mega cheap. Will i have to change the heads and intake or just the intake. I haven't seen the engine yet, but is there a plate covering the hole for the fuel pump? I know the blocks are pretty much the same. Any ideas?

I know the heads shouldnt be diff...I heard of a few guys putting 305 heads on 350 motors to raise the compression (probably a redneck way to do it). Id take the carb off and the TPI setup...should be appearant pretty quick I would think...take a tape measure just in case.

The TBI motors use a different intake with the center bolts having an angle change from previous generations. Some of those blocks came without the fuel pump pushrod hole drilled so verify that you will be ok there...we have the tool and jig to do the work, but most shops do not. Other than that physically the blocks, heads will work for you...assuming that you have a 1-piece rear main motor to start with. The flexplate I don't think is the same, but would have to check at work before confirming.

FYI - Edelbrock makes a nice carb manifold for TBI heads.
