Electrical help

I have got so many freakin wires that have benn unplugged and tied back or just flat out hanging out in the wind. I have everything programmed off of my car. Like AIR EGR and what not.

What I was wondering is if I could just take out the wires that go into the fuse box for the air pump just so I can get rid of the harness and try to clean this car up a little bit more.

Also, in my interior I just have the air bag wires hanging around. It's okay if I track them down and completely get rid of them right? I have a gutted interior so I want to get rid of them but I figured I would just ask just in case something could go seriously wrong!

Thanks a bunch everyone!

Re: Electrical help

I've seen it here in California where people cut wires that they don't know where they go, and come time for smog it's a big mess. I'm sure it's not too far in the future for all states to have some kind of testing. The federal govt has mandated that all states have some kind of inspection scenario and are working on implementation. If not they stand to lose funding. If you cut the wires, at some point the entire loom will need to be replaced or the wires spliced back. In 1990 when this testing "hit the fan" I couldn't believe all the things people removed, cut, modified, threw away. Don't throw anything away and mark the wire colors. Yeah you may sell the car later, but some one is going to end up with a lot of headaches. And I know, your state doesn't do smog inspections, I hear that all the time. Idaho just started testing in Boise, population of about 150,000. Phoenix is testing I think every year. Alaska is even more strict than California. Remember, there are federal laws about tampering with emission controls. If you are making this an off street car for racing, then less weight would be a factor. If this is your daily driver, why do you want to hack it. Air Inj only works when eng temp is cold.
Good luck, it's your car.

Re: Electrical help

The things that 1991 said definitely have validity, however, I removed the air, egr, evap, cats, and pretty much everything else that has to do with emission controls. I just pulled the split loom tubing off the main harness a lil' bit and cut off where the wires for whatever I took off were branched out....put alittle silicone over the ends and used some self-vulcanizing electrical tape over that. Then I put the main harness split-loom tubing back over where I did the cutting and it looks like there was never any wire coming out of that spot. I'm having all the codes deleted for the stuff I took off, and with the way I covered the wire ends, I'll never have to worry about anything shorting out. The engine compartment looks much better w/o all those wires and tubes all over the place

No I don't have to worry about anything...it's just a track car. And selling the car is NOT an option I would ever choose in my life time. Air Injection has been gone for a very long time. I have hooker long tubes without provisions as well as no cats or the evap. It's strictly a track car but I'm caught cruisin in it a couple times a month.

Jermey, thats what I was going to do...trace the wires and take them out of the fuse box and then through the PCM.

Don't start taking too much of that crap out of the engine compartment or you might actually be able to tell there's a motor in there!!!

Right now my a/c still works fine, but I know thats not going to last forever....as soon as the compressor seizes or something breaks, all that crap is coming out too. I've also thought about a street slick/skinny combo and loosing the power steering to clean things up even more(and lose weight ofcourse).
