There are no build numbers on the door sticker.

Does it really matter? SS is only hood, wheels, spoiler, exhaust, lame suspension tweaks.

Yes! Because whether you agree or not, the SS's comand a higher resale price then the Z28's. And will retain better value over time if left unmolested.

Re: Ebay Scammer??? Is it a real 1997 SS?

I called SLP today, and they said it is a real SS.

They said it came with the Hurst Shifter, Torsen rear end, and peformence exhaust.

I was thinking about buying it, but I'm not going to buy a car off of ebay, especially from somebody with zero feedback. I just refuse to buy a car that I haven't looked at in person and drove in person.

I have a theory as to why the SS badge is in the wrong place and the ones on the fender look like stickers. This car might have been repainted at some point, and they put the badge in the wrong spot and maybe put stickers on instead of the fender badges.

Yes it matters. It is the exact same thing as if you are going to pay $100,000+ for a "authentic, numbers matching" 1969 Yenko Camaro. Then you find out that its a clone and some shister made off with all your money.

Makes a lot of sense... comparing a rare collector vehicle to a 1997 SS with thousands just like it. Camaros/firebirds in general don't hold their value very well. Having an SS package is good for maybe 1000-1500 bucks, which means nothing to a buyer/enthusiast. The buyer should be wary of the condition of the car, not the hood/spoiler. It's the same as having a few performance parts on a car then selling it, it commands a higher price. Even if it was an SS clone, it will run the same, look the same, and still fetch the same price due to the additional "Custom" work done to the car.

I have to disagree with you here a bit.
Consider that a SS/WS6 comands a $1000 higher price, that is a lot of money in value considering most all LT1s, and many early years LS1 cars can be had for $10,000 or less. Overtime the "Ram Air" cars will be worth more simply because they are originally priced higher and will be considered a "rare" model.

Although I agree with your thinking.
I could have EASILY owned an SS/WS6 car.
But for the extra money there wasn't enough there to make me want to pay the higher price.

The 97s were the first year that had the 16" 5 spoke wheels, 97 ~ 02 tail lights, and the 97 ~ 02 dash/console. There is nothing out of place with that car. The LS1 years carried over these changes

Well there's your answer... it's an eary year car... so it probably is authentic.

O-well... being a Z28 owner.... I could care less about an SS...anything... Just badges and a fancy hood to me.

Re: Ebay Scammer??? Is it a real 1997 SS?

Well my example was a bit extreme, but the principle is exactly the same in both situations. And when I bought my car, the SS commanded a $2000-$3000 more than a comparable Z28. If I am going to buy an SS, it better be the real deal, not somebody's bastardization of a Z28. Another strike against the clone is that the hood, spoiler, wheels, and paint could have been slapped together and be of inferior quality to OEM.

This is the most ridiculus statement I have ever heard. Because it must be true to every single person in the world except for me. I am specificly looking for a 1996-1997 SS/6 Speed car.

Now why would people pay "1000-1500 bucks" more for an SS, while it means nothing to a buyer/enthusiast? If it the SS meant nothing to a buyer/enthusiast, it would stand to reason that an SS would sell AT THE SAME PRICE AS A COMPARABLE Z28.

The biggest problem I see is that the WS6/SS package adds up to $3500 or more when you go to buy the dang thing, but there is no allowance in any of the KBB or the like! So it is up to the dealer to give you more for it when you trade it in, or the person buying the car when you are trying to sell it. However, the dealer sure can tack on a charge for when he is trying to sell it!

Re: Ebay Scammer??? Is it a real 1997 SS?

I have just proved that SS sells for more than Z28. I've been looking for 6 months for a blue '02 convertible. I found 2 good ones; a Z28 with 995 miles on it, and an SS with 17,000 miles. After some soul searching I decided I just had to have the "cachet" of the SS, so even with the mileage difference I paid $2,500 more for the SS than I could have got the Z for. I'm sure others would have gone the other way, and I did consider spending the money on modifying the Z, but there are plenty of people like me who will, and do, pay more for a true SS.
