E-Cutout Loudness
E-Cutout Loudness
Ok, quick question for you guys with cutouts
Would an E-cutout be louder then my SLP LM catback exhaust..(stock manifolds with cat)
I am just too used to the loudness of the SLP and want to go louder but I am strapped for money for headers, unless i go shorties
Any

Good deal, thank you.. im probably going to go with the wingnut version
another question, where should i get it put in at and what size should i get?
Re: E-Cutout Loudness
Most guys install it behind the cats, right where there's a hump in the floorpan for the rear seats - that's the area with the most room. There's also a rubber plug in the floorpan nearby that's a convenient spot for running the wiring into the interior.
Re: E-Cutout Loudness
i cut the cat off and put it where it was. make sure to get it tilted and a 45 degree angle towards the passenger side so you can get to it if you buy the wingnut version. any muffler shop can do it for about 10 bucks. however the e cut--out will cost a lot more to install because they are hooking up the electronics for it too. you need to get a 3 inch because thats what your y pipe goes into. i you want i will will sell you my cut out with wingnuts with 2 copper gaskets (cost 15 bucks for just the gaskets) for $20 you pay shipping. the normal gaskets that come with it blow out after a couple of months. it is on my car right now but i ordered bullets and x pipe to hook up true duels next week. thanks chris

I wired up the switch myself. It's really simple and the whole job should be able to be completed within an hour. Just remove the passenger seat and center console, lift up the carpet a bit and route the wire through the plug under the rear seat. Bring the switch up to where the handbrake is, and quik-tie the slack and leave it in the rear seat bucket. I drilled a 1/2 " hole in the ashtray, put the switch in there. It's nice, easy to access, and the tray cover hides the light.
When I wired it up, I connected the power lead to the TCS switch that way the switch is only on when the car is on. If you wire the power to the cig lighter you will have power all the time. Connect up the neutral to the cig lighters neutral and you're done.
And yes, it is VERY loud. My dash has a wierd rattle noise at around 2500 rpms, but I tell you there is no better sound then rowing through the gears at 6k rpm with that cut out open. Everything else fades away.
Re: E-Cutout Loudness
how do those work with a gasket? does it have some type to seal it off? and if you get an e cut out do it yourself if at all possible cause i bet your gonna get raped

on the installWell the e-plate mounts onto a flowtech cutout. Basically, you're buying a regualr cutout and also the plate. Anyway, the studs on the cutout aren't long enough to use a gasket along with the plate. You're supposed to apply RTV sealant to the cutout, let it dry, then mount the plate.
The actual plate itself seals very well. You can't hear any leak sounds with it closed. Unfortunently it isn't of the best quality and I have had to re-build mine twice. The actual motor is only held on by 2 small "bolts". After enough vibration it comes loose and starts to rattle, along wiht not closing the plate completly.
It's not that difficult to rebuild it, and when I did last time I used better bolts/screws and applied a lot of lok-tite. Since I did that I haven't had any problems.
