Dumb question, but would like an answer.
i know it isnt really what it means...but i always like to think Z-2(2 doors) 8 (8 cylinders) but then that doesnt really work for z-71..haha...and wasnt the sports coupe the base line model? and berlinetta above it?
lol, I'm a big NASCAR fan, and racing fan, and that's the only reason I know what IROC ment. They used to race the Camaros in the IROC series back in the early 90's I believe it was. Possibly late 80's too. I can't remember back then, I wasn't really old enough to remember.

Berlinetta was the luxury trim model, with standard power equipment and different wheels. Specific to 2nd gen I think, but there may have been one or two years for the third gen's.
RS means rally sport. It's designation has changed throughout the years. It has also been used on Cavaliers...

Z/28 was originally just an RPO code with no special meaning except for defining the options. It became a defining label for the Camaro line. It used to be very special and rare, i.e. only a certain V-8 (and options) came with the Z/28 label, and the more regular V-8's came with a different desinator like SS. Later, the Z/28 label was given to more pedestrian V-8's and is no longer as rare or special as the original. I kind of hope the 5th gen car has SS as the normal V-8 label, with the Z/28 the high performance moniker, but that would be the opposite of what the 4th gen cars had.
The International Race of Champions is a race where all the contestants drive identically prepared cars. It's supposed to be about the best drivers, and not who has the best car. GM paid for rights to use the name and Camaros were used for the race vehicles. It was kind of cool to see lots of F-bodies racing together.
